China’s Sang Lan wants US lawyer to sue Goodwill Games

Former Chinese gymnast Sang Lan, who broke her neck and was left paralysed at the 1998 Goodwill Games, is looking for an US lawyer to help her sue the organisers, Reuters reports.

She said a coach from another country was moving landing mattresses and distracted her. "I have started to collect the information about how I was distracted and injured, and the record of my contacts with the Games organisers. I will seek representation among American attorneys."

The Goodwill Games were created by media mogul Ted Turner in 1986 and ended in 2001.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
