Technology claims increasing, says insurer

Hiscox has strengthened its technology, media and telecoms (TMT) claims team with the appointment of James Webster as UK & International TMT claims underwriter.

Reporting to Ian Birdsey, UK and International TMT claims manager, and based in Hiscox’s London office, Webster will be responsible for handling TMT claims.

He joins from Wragge & Co where, as a solicitor, he specialised in IT litigation advising the firm’s FTSE clients on a range of complex technology related disputes including breach of warranty and contractual claims. Prior to Wragge & Co, Webster was a trainee solicitor at Pinsent Masons from 2004 to 2006.

Ian Birdsey said: “We have seen an increase in claims activity amongst our technology clients in particular with the downturn triggering an increase in IT claims areas such as breach of contract, which further emphasises the need to deliver the best possible dispute resolution and claims support to our IT clients.

"James Webster brings a first class track record of litigation experience in the IT sector and he will be an asset to our claims team; ensuring we continue to deliver the quality of claims service that our brokers and clients expect.”
