Hiscox is making a new identity theft recovery service available free of charge to its Direct policyholders, in response to the rising incidents of identity theft in the UK.

The service is provided by red2, an 24-hour security advice and response service.

Hiscox said that in the event of a customer becoming a victim of identity theft, it will immediately assign a red24 adviser to work with them, face to face for up to two days, to help them recover their identity.

This service is free of charge. Hiscox customers can also access credit monitoring services from Equifax, at substantially reduced rates, to help them identify any changes to their credit status as a result of identity theft – this includes text alerts.

Hiscox's identity fraud assistance also provides customers with expert advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of ID theft and access to a dedicated team of protection specialists 24 hours a day.

Kevin Kerridge, head of direct business, Hiscox said: "The new service is designed to both alleviate worries over falling victim to identity theft and provide rapid assistance to minimise the impact on a victim's circumstances."
