Work experience students are great when it comes to making the tea and photocopying. However, last week Hiscox enjoyed the services of a rather unusual work experience boy - one with a decidedly more blue-blooded heritage.

Prince William, as part of his three-week work experience sojourn in the City, spent a day living the life of a Lloyd's insurer with Hiscox.

Interrupted only by the requisite pub lunch (at Ball Brothers, perhaps?), he tried his hand at high net worth, contingency and energy underwriting, along with a bit of time in the claims department.

So would he make it as underwriter? Ever the diplomat, Hiscox chief executive Bronek Masojada, would say only that it was “probably not what the Prince would want to do”.

However, it appears business boomed for Hiscox. “There were more people around the boxes than usual,” said Masojada.
