UK brokers having trouble placing European business can now access a network of brokers across Europe through Leeds-based broker RP Hodson.

RP Hodson director Christopher Leage said that through the broker's membership of European broker network Euribron, it can help UK brokers to place risks in Europe.

Euribron has members in 13 European countries and handles premiums in excess of ¤870m (£580m).

The network was formed ten years ago to help brokers across Europe service commercial and corporate clients whose operations are predominantly based in one country, but which may have one or two sites that need insuring in other European countries.

Through the network, cover is arranged, policies are issued and claims are handled locally.

Leage said that while its members were predominantly based in Western Europe, Euribron was currently looking to develop a working relationship with another network, MAI Central Eastern Europe, to help brokers place business in several new EU member states.

"There is clearly a developing need to be able to provide solutions within the expanding EU," Leage said.

"There is going to be more cross-border business. While EU laws are starting to break down barriers, at the moment there are still a lot of localised requirements."
