Investors warned to back only brokers not risk carriers

Barron's financial newspaper says investors should avoid property and casualty insurers and reinsurers during the June through November hurricane season, Reuters reports.

Last year's quiet hurricane season might not be repeated and a big storm this year could hit the bottom line of many property and casualty insurers.

Insurers that write policies covering boats, could also take a hit.

But insurance brokers, which sell policies but not take on the risks, were worth investing in, the report said. It recommended Marsh, Aon, and Markel.
