Abbey's dual cover discount
Abbey National is offering a 15% discount to new and renewing policyholders who take out combined buildings and contents home insurance. The bank says the dual cover starts from £9.60 per month. The policy is sold by Abbey National Home Insurance Direct.

Furness takes the heat out
Building society Furness has launched a low-cost mortgage payment protection cover called Firstrate. The policy provides full unemployment and disability cover for £3.95 per £100. New Furness mortgages will benefit from 12 months' free cover.

RSA revamp
Royal & Sunalliance has revamped two of its legal expenses products, called Essentials and Selections. The co-insurance clause has been dropped from the Essentials policy, which means policyholders no longer have to contribute to the legal fees. Co-insurance has also been removed from the Selections policy with the exception of debt recovery and contract claims.

Hitachi Credit Insurance has clinched a contract with the electrical goods buying group CI(H) to offer its members a range of warranty products. Novasure Extended Warranty offers customers up to five years' comprehensive cover against breakdown and accidental damage. Novasure Product Replacement guarantees customers a new replacement for video recorders up to £140 and colour TVs up to £160.
