Chubb pays compensation
Chubb has paid Hiscox Insurance £625,000 compensation for poaching managing director, Ralph Jones. Jones, who had worked for Chubb before, rejoined in the USA, to take up the role of chief executive of Chubb Executive Risk on November 15.

Healy moves to the UK
Axa Ireland chief executive Gerard Healy is moving to the UK to become group director of strategic development at Sun Life and Provincial Holdings. Healy takes up his new role on December 1, and will focus on the business and technological changes facing the financial services industry.

Marsh opens office in Wales
Broking giant Marsh has opened new offices in Cardiff to house the pre-takeover staff of J&H Marsh Maclennan and Sedgewick. The new site, officially opened last night by The First Secretary of the National Assembly for Wales (the Welsh prime minister equivalent), will be the base for around 40 Marsh staff. The offices will carry out activities from national and international risk management to broking for companies.

Italian insurer Assitalia has launched a new web site which provides company information and details of its broker network. The address is www.assitalia.co.uk.

Hitachi's Plain English award
The Plain English Campaign has given its Crystal Mark for clarity to the Hitachi Credit Insurance Corporation for the policy wording on its payment protection product. Hitachi says its re-written payment protection insurance policy marks the first stage in a general review of its documentation with the view to bettering consumer understanding.

Claims On Line opens in UK
US-based Claims On Line has opened a London office. Former chief executive of the Institute of London Underwriters, Tony Funnell, is named as managing director. Claims On Line provides an internet-accessed claims service for insurers, reinsurers, brokers, loss adjusters, captive and risk managers. The service can be accessed via www.claimsreportsonline.com.

Kneeshaw new role at DAS
DAS' Ray Kneeshaw has stepped up to the senior management team at the legal expenses insurer. Ex-corporate business manager Kneeshaw has become sales and marketing manager, taking responsibility for all sales matters and overall control of marketing communications.

MNR Oakes is senior partner
Robin Oakes has been appointed senior partner of the London Region of chartered accountants Mazars Neville Russell (MNR). Oakes has been a partner at the firm since 1985 and is a Lloyd's insurance specialist. He takes over from Peter Ridge who retires at the end of this year.

Weightmans' £1m IT spend
Law firm Weightmans will launch a major new service-driven web site before 2000. The firm has also just invested £1 million in information technology throughout its five offices in the North West and the Midlands.
