Broker Stuart Alexander moved into its new office in Fenchurch Street last week. As part of the soirée, copious amounts of champagne and lager were ordered by one of its new staff members, Shula.

The following day, once the headaches had passed, she received an email from the caterers who had organised the bash.

It gave some friendly advice to the new recruit to the industry. It said: "I hadn't appreciated the drinking capabilities of the insurance trade and having reflected on the evening I think that, should you hold a similar event in the future, I would add another case of champagne and double the quantity of beer to cover the event.

"I would also recommend that additional glassware is also allowed for."
