Allianz is worst performer in Europe, falling 21%

Insurance brands fell in popularity by 7% in the past year but that “looks almost like growth” when compared with the 48% drop in 2008, according to the BrandZ report by market research firm Millward Brown.

With the worst performing brand, ING, about to disappear, the worst performing brand left in Europe was the world’s biggest insurer Allianz, which fell 21%.

Top three growing insurance brands:

  • US insurer State Farm (19%)
  • Swiss insurer Zurich (17%)
  • France’s AXA (7%)

The worst falling brands were:

  • Dutch insurer ING (-47%)
  • US insurer Allstate (-33%)
  • Germany’s Allianz (-21%)

The 7% fall of insurance brands overall compared with a rise of 12% for financial institutions, such as banks.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
