Software glitch leads to three-day delay

Brokers using the Insurecom software house have been unable to get Aviva personal lines motor quotes since Monday morning due to a technical glitch.

Aviva head of broker personal lines Brian Spinks said that Insurecom’s systems did not accept an upgrade to Aviva’s personal lines rating software on Sunday night.

He said: “We took a number of servers down late Sunday night and Monday morning. There was a bit of XML code that we deployed on an international recognised standard that Insurecom were unable to recognise. Insurecom were unable to identify that and translate it to a quote to a brokers.

“We are contacting brokers now and informing them of the situation and apologising.”

Spinks added that Aviva had seen “intermittent” problems on other software houses too, but that these had been fixed.

An Insurecom spokesman said the problem would be fixed by the end of today and that the firm only found out about the problem yesterday.
