Insurers have hit back at reports that homeowners in Carlisle would face "knee-jerk" premium increases after the recent flooding.

Norwich Union (NU) head of underwriting Laurence Loughnane said: "Insurers make allowances for flooding risks when they are setting prices.

"If there are premium increases it won't be specific to Carlisle. It will be because we have an increased knowledge of where flooding is likely to occur and because the industry is working to improve its risk-based pricing."
