Chancellor Gordon Brown has given in to industry demands for better funding of flood defences.

According to sources, flood defence spending will increase by £150m per year under the new Comprehensive Spending Review. The Association of British Insurers lobbied for an increase of just £145m per year.

A total of £394m had been pledged for flood and coastal defences, according to The Department for Food and Rural Affairs.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
