We note the research ("Insurers find job boring" 8 August, Insurance Times) on professional attitudes within the insurance industry. Of particular interest was the statement that employees think the industry is not investing enough in its staff.

This is not our experience. Growing numbers of insurance companies all along the claims chain - and professionals in every part of the industry - are taking part in getting qualifications. We are getting increasing numbers of applicants taking the Society of Claims Technicians exams and achieving membership.

What is more the organisations they work for are giving more study time off, more customised study sessions and more support generally, not least in financial incentives for their people to achieve higher levels of professional standards and qualifications.

It was also interesting to note that 75% of those interviewed looked for opportunities which offered career progression and training. In the claims sector, at any rate, more and more companies know this only too well.
