There is much to be said for the weird and wonderful terms used by insurance folks - above all, what do they mean?

This week the CII aimed to solve the mystery surrounding words such as 'zillmerisation' by producing an industry insider dictionary.

So for those Backchat readers waiting anxiously to finally discover zillmerisation's meaning, read on:

"A process whereby an adjustment is made in the actuarial valuation of long-term business to take credit for the future recovery of the costs of acquiring new business."

So now you know. Your next challenge is to try incorporating that word into a reasonable sentence in your working life today.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
