Bristol-based ARAG acquires broker

ARAG, the legal expenses insurer, has acquired broker ATE for an undisclosed sum.

ATE places nearly £4m worth of annual after-the-event insurance with underwriters. It also has a network of solicitors committed to working with ATE clients.

ARAG, started in 2006 by former directors from rival insurer DAS, is a Bristol-based managing general agency.

Tony Buss, managing director of ARAG, said: “This acquisition further shows our commitment to the UK legal expenses market and a further endorsement by our parent company to support our ambitious expansion programme. We are also pleased that the core members of staff will be retained.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
