Liberty Syndicates has raised its 2006 capacity 27% over 2005 levels to £912m.
Liberty said the extra capacity would be used to support increased underwriting in all five of the company's underwriting divisions – worldwide reinsurance, London market reinsurance, contingent lines, property and casualty.
In a separate move, Liberty said it would be taking over the book of European-based catastrophe business formerly written by its sister company, Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe.
The book, underwritten by Patrick Boutet from his Paris base, will be brought into the worldwide reinsurance division of Syndicate 4472.
Liberty said the move formed part of the syndicate's desire to improve its offering to the market and achieve clarity within its reinsurance divisions.
