Lloyds TSB Insurance is to sell Bupa private medical insurance to its customers.

Bupa Heartbeat, a personal health plan which aims to prevent illness as well as support the sick, is being offered to all Lloyds TSB's 550,000 business banking customers.

The scheme is already on offer through the group's Cheltenham and Gloucester bank branches and will be extended later this year to all the banking group's customers as part of a range of health products.

It will be available through the high street banking group's 2,300 branches.

Lloyds TSB customers will also get access to a 24-hour medical helpline staffed by nurses.

Lloyds TSB managing director Jon Pain said: "By offering Bupa Heartbeat we're not only offering more choice, but also providing our customers with a wider range of healthcare solutions to meet their individual needs."

The Bupa private medical insurance will be available alongside established Lloyds TSB Insurance's health products in its healthcare options range.

This is a cash plan product aimed at preventive and support measures. It offers regular health checks, a private medical helpline, a payment up to £50,000 in the event of an accident, daily cash payments if customers have to stay in hospital and money towards private consultation fees and diagnostic tests.

Healthcare options customers can also select up to four additional options, covering dental, optical, physiotherapy and cancer cover.
