Adoption of company market system expands electronic claims file use

Markel International today confirmed that they are now ready to accept any new claim that is in-scope through the electronic claims file system.

Markel have been dealing with Lloyd’s claims electronically since September 2006 but their recent adoption of the company market system means that they now have the capability to trade all new claims electronically.

Gerry Albanese, president and COO of Markel International said: “We have been involved in the development of ECF from the very start. We are committed to making a success of the initiative and will gladly offer our brokers help, support and guidance on using the system. Our aim is to have all in-scope claims presented electronically unless there is a good reason why this is not possible.”

At the same time the company has implemented a comprehensive training programme so that its employees are fully prepared for the inevitable increase in ECF usage in the months and years ahead.

Stuart Willoughby, director of claims at Markel, said: “At the heart of ECF is the ability to handle claims more efficiently and effectively - the client being the ultimate beneficiary. Playing a key part in ECF implementation from the start has helped Markel shape the system according to the needs of our brokers. As a result we can now offer in-depth advice and guidance on ECF to any broker that wishes to work with us.”
