Smart and Cook managing director Paul Meehan was in mischievous mood at the Biba Independents Day seminar in Leeds last week. As chair of the discussion he introduced each panel member with an "appropriate" piece of music.

Folgate Partnership chief executive Andy Homer received TV cartoon The Simpsons theme tune and Alec Finch Group director Alec Finch, fanatical Manchester City fan, got the club's adopted rallying song Blue moon.

But the cheekiest selection of all was reserved for Royal & SunAlliance corporate director Brendan McManus: he walked to the podium to the strains of You're so vain. The brokers in the audience tried hard to keep their amusement quiet as they pondered the similarities between McManus and the song's original target Warren Beatty.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
