Re Paul Genney's letter in today's edition, I am pleased to report that he may now sleep easy and untroubled by the erroneous 'a' on his employers' liability (EL) certificates.

I would refer him to Statutory Instrument 1998 No. 2573 @ www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1998/19982573.htm whereby a specimen of the EL certificate is made available, containing footnotes (a), (b) and (c).

It does seem that some insurers have copied this verbatim, including the footnotes, on to their certificates rather than amend where appropriate, as I think is intended.
