More protection for employers

Capita Assistance is to break into the employment practice liability market with a new product called Legalplus Employer Protection.

The product, underwritten by SVB, is aimed at larger commercial organisations with annual payrolls in excess of £1m. It will provide protection against unfair and wrongful dismissal claims, discrimination claims, data protection liabilities, working time regulations and court and tribunal attendance costs.

Underwriting head Frank O'Malley said Legalplus offered more than what was currently available from commercial legal expenses, such as indemnity limits raised to £2m and no need for underwriters' approval needed prior to dismissals.

“Today's business environment is steeped in litigation risk,” he said.
