The government is to overhaul the governance arrangements for Lloyd's. Ed Balls, financial secretary to the Treasury, said the decision was taken as part of reforms of the London insurance market, looking at where "corporate governance arrangements are out of step with modern practices."

Hiscox GWP rises 5%
Hiscox said it had seen steady growth in its UK business with a 5% increase in gross written premium to £92m in the five months to 31 May 2007.
