RPI ruling upheld

The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling allowing courts to use indices other than the retail prices index to calculate future costs of care for personal injury claims. Thompstone v Tameside & Glossop Acute Services NHS Trust is now expected to go to the House of Lords.

Heritage is tipped to be in takeover talks with non-UK insurers, according to analysts. The move follows the collapse of Ironshore’s bid to take over the Lloyd’s insurer.

Aon promotes Brown

Aon has appointed Robert Brown head of its corporate division. Brown, previousy head of risk transfer at Aon, replaces John Thornton. Peter Harmer, Aon chief executive, said: “Robert has a deep knowledge of the market Aon Corporate operates in.”

Jackson joins Carole Nash

Simon Jackson is to join motorcycle specialist Carole Nash as commercial director, almost seven months after quitting his role as managing director of Roadsure. Jackson will replace Warren Dickson, who is leaving after 15 years.

AXA hires two for Venture

AXA has made two appointments at Venture Preference, its general insurance broker business. Sandy Dunn has been made non-executive chairman
