Towergate nets broker

Towergate has completed the acquisition of the 40-year-old Hull-based broker Rixon Matthews Appleyard. Twenty-five staff have moved to the consolidator, increasing its presence in Hull. Rixons controls premiums of £10m in commercial and personal lines business, as well as specialist niches including garden centre, glasshouses and growers schemes.

Aviva chases payout

Aviva wants back the £241,000 insurance payout it made to Michelle Barber after her estranged husband burned down her home. The insurer says it would not have offered her cover had it known she had been fined £150 for benefit fraud. Barber claims that she was not asked about previous fines when she took out the policy.

NIG appointment

NIG has appointed Martin Hall as director of commercial underwriting.

Motor fraud ‘doubles’

TCF Corporate, a specialist provider of outsourced motor fraud management solutions, says that the number of fraudulent motor claims made in the first nine months of this year doubled to almost 23% of cases.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
