The film is ’iconic, moving and beautifully made’, says Carpenters Group director

Later this year (14 September 2023), Carpenters Group will be sponsoring the world premiere of Bolan’s Shoes in Liverpool.

The film, which incorporates music from the 1970’s glam rock era, tells the story of Marc Bolan and the rise of his band T.Rex before his death in 1977.

Carpenters Group was approached by the film’s independent production company Buffalo Dragon about being it’s headline sponsor for the premiere.

The firm then found out that the film would be supporting men’s mental health charity Sean’s Place, which Carpenters Group has worked with since it was founded in January 2020.

Carpenters Group does fundraising for Sean’s Place, while some of its staff also volunteer.

When asked why this sponsorship was so important for Carpenters Group, director Donna Scully told Insurance Times: ”It was an unusual sponsorship for us, but it ticked so many boxes close to our heart.

“[This includes] the connection to Sean’s Place and giving it a platform as a charity, as well as highlighting how important support is for people suffering mental illness.”

Scully said she first connected with Sean’s Place founder Debbie Rogers on Twitter during the pandemic.

Rogers lost her brother Sean in 2019 following his battle with mental health and subsequently set up Sean’s Place.

‘Close to heart’

”I loved what she was doing in the name of her brother,” Scully said.

”What she has done, despite the pandemic and how difficult funding is, is amazing. Her bravery and determination moved me so I wanted to help her as much as I could. I did some ad hoc support and we now sponsor one of the treatment rooms which is named after Carpenters Group.”

Scully added: “Mental health awareness and support is very close to my heart as my mother has suffered severe mental illness all her life and it impacts the sufferer and their family.

”Sean’s Place support the family too. I wish my brother and I had had that support when we were younger.”

To celebrate the film’s premiere debuting in Liverpool, Carpenters Group staff will be attending with friends and clients.

“We’ve had a glimpse at the film and it’s wonderful. It’s iconic, moving and beautifully made,” Scully added.
