NMJ Insurance Brokers has acquired the general insurance business of MJ Stansfield.

The deal is NMJ’s fourth since its launch in 2010, following the acquisitions of Ridge Insurance in Glossop, Protheroe Insurance in Belper, and Barry Fenton Insurance in Scunthorpe.

MJ Stansfield has been trading in Glossop since 1986. The business has been acquired from the current proprietor, Mike Stansfield, who has made a “strategic decision” to sell the general insurance business in order to concentrate on the broker’s mortgage, life, pension and investment activities.

NMJ has transferred the business to its existing branch in Glossop, which trades as Ridge Insurance.

NMJ director Mike Hutton said: “Mike Stansfield has been known to the team at Ridge for many years and this was an excellent opportunity further expand our business in the town.”

Stansfield said: “I am delighted that NMJ has acquired the general insurance part of my business. It was particularly important for me to ensure that the clients who have supported me over many years would be in safe hands following the sale.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
