Norwich Union (NU) is to launch an offshoring pilot scheme, transferring a number of finance administration roles to Sri Lanka.

Twenty-five back office support roles from the general insurance side of NU will be offshored to a new facility in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The pilot will begin later this year and is expected to last three months, said an NU spokesman. There were no plans to extend the pilot, he added.

Staff were told of the move last week. The insurer said efforts would be made to offer affected staff alternative jobs within the group.

Sri Lanka was chosen for the pilot because the accountancy training and expertise there was comparable to the UK, NU said.
