The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will make a presentation to the industry in the next two weeks on its investigation into the after-the event (ATE).

The OFT launched the review at the beginning of December 2004 and sent out questionnaires to defendant lawyers, the Claims Standard Council, APIL, ATE insurers and the ABI.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act [2000] show that a letter was sent to the ABI's Alistair Kinley on 3 December asking for responses to a "preliminary level" ATE review by 7 January.

Kinley said: "We in fact asked for the time limit to be extended into mid-February so we could take a more detailed analysis from our members.

"I understand the results will be published this quarter."

Kinley added that he hoped that the review would address the issues surrounding the Courts Bill which comes into effect on 1 April.

The OFT was unavailable for comment.
