Older cars are prime targets

Older cars are more likely to be stolen, the Car Theft Index published this week has indicated.

New and nearly new cars are fitted with immobilisers as standard and are seen as less easy pickings for opportunistic thieves, the index found.

Telebroker Peoples Choice has offered to fit immobilisers for £99 for callers who complete a motor insurance quotation before the end of December.

Peoples Choice managing director Philip da Silva said drivers with immobilisers could also get discounts of up to 12% on their insurance.

“While an immobiliser won't offer 100% protection from having your car stolen, it'll significantly reduce the risk,” he said.
