Consolidator acquires £5.5m GWP Aberdeen broker to boost presence

Oval has acquired Aberdeen-based Independent Insurance Brokers.

The deal further adds to Oval’s presence in the north of Scotland and increases its headcount in Scotland as a whole to almost 100.

Independent Insurance Brokers Ltd (IIB) was formed in 1991 by Tom Christie who was joined in 1993 by Iain Hay. They will both join Oval with their team.

IIB is a general commercial insurance business advising both local and international clients, with a specialism in oil, gas and renewables. It has a GWP of nearly £5.5m and a team of 11 staff.

Tom Christie said: “Both Iain and I are delighted that our whole team are staying with us as we join Oval.

"Independent Insurance Brokers has always strived to maintain the highest levels of service for our clients and we are confident that our customers will see our levels of service increasing as we become part of a national business.

"We pride ourselves on our client facing and local service and we are very pleased that these are values that we will share with Oval moving forwards.”

Paul Kerry, regional managing director of Oval in Scotland, said: “The acquisition of Independent Insurance Brokers is an incredibly positive addition to our presence in Aberdeen and our offering in Scotland as a whole.

"We are extremely pleased that Oval is continuing to invest and grow in Scotland and it is tremendous that a company with the experience and expertise of IIB is joining our team.”
