Rehabilitation sector calls for the government to clarify the role of rehabilitators in the claims process

Physiotherapists could be included in independent medical panels for assessing whiplash, according to speakers at an Argent Rehabilitation conference on the introduction of such panels.

Motor Accident Solicitors Society chair Craig Budsworth said that the role of physiotherapists was “definitely being considered” as part of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) review, but could not comment further because of his involvement in the process.

Meanwhile, other speakers called on the government to look specifically at how rehabilitation is used in whiplash claims.

Argent Rehabilitation director Andrew Pemberton said: “While the debate about how to deal with whiplash claims continues and government looks to medical panels to help identify genuine claims, now is also the time to make sure rehabilitation is integrated with any new system.”
