Brokers should turn to electronic systems for transactions or risk losing thousands of pounds if commission cheques are delayed in the threatened postal strike, warned intermediary network CETA.

CETA fears the possible strike could also cause problems for customers awaiting confirmation of cover.

CETA managing director David Quick said: "Brokers should not be worried if they have not used electronic systems before.

"For example, our internet-based system has been designed to be simple and efficient to use.

"There is a dedicated telephone helpline for brokers to call us if they experience any problems."
