Litigation Protection managing director Brian Raincock has blasted liability insurers over the "litigation chaos" surrounding the industry.

Raincock, speaking at the Insurance Institute of London on Tuesday, said the industry's failure to deal with the recoverability of premiums had created a complete mess over the past 15 months.

He said he did not argue that quantum was an issue, but said that it should not permit total non-payment by defendant insurers.

"There are now over 150,000 unresolved cases in the courts," he said.

"Claimants are unable to discharge their loans taken out to fund their premiums and solicitors' cash flow is further stretched as they await the conclusion of these cases."
