Smithson sale
The Smithson Mason Group has announced the sale of its professional risks portfolio to the medical insurance division of the Towergate Underwriting Group.

As part of the Folgate Partnership, Smithson has recently formed a strategic alliance with Towergate. The sale is designed to further enhance Folgate's broker distribution.

The portfolio includes specialist professional indemnity for professions including psychologists.

Folgate chief executive Andy Homer said: "The deal creates a Towergate MIAGI presence in Leeds and helps our colleagues in Smithson Mason concentrate on the progress they are making in acquiring commercial broker portfolios in the Yorkshire area. We intend to be the region's largest broking enterprise within 24 months."

Loan protection
The mis-selling of payment protection insurance (PPI) by financial institutions has prompted protection specialist Goodfellows to launch a new loan protection policy.

The new product is claimed to provide extra value for money. Goodfellows managing director Simon Burgess said: "We have endeavoured to put an element of best advice into the sale of PPI with this totally flexible product that has none of the pitfalls normally associated with this insurance."

Claimex network
Loss adjuster Claimex has announced the membership of its Claims Experts Network, a national alliance of chartered adjusters representing policyholders.

The network includes members in London, Essex, Cheshire, South Wales, the Home Counties, Scotland, Midlands and Merseyside.

Joint e-risk venture
Polaris, Biba and 24 7 have joined forces to create a set of commercial risk presentations to be used in the new Polaris e-market initiative.

The collaboration will enable insurers to complete a standard commercial presentation to insurers for certain classes of business.

Rarrigini & Rosso Group chief executive Julie Rodilosso said: "It took 24 7 Broking a long time to garner the information required to underwrite 32 different classes of commercial insurance and then programme into our system." She said 24 7 wanted to be part of the cause for standardisation.

The new partnership will enable travellers to book EasyJet-branded travel insurance via easyJet's website as they book flights.

EasyJet plans to make its site low-cost and simple in order to establish its travel insurance alongside high street brands.
