Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) has appointed Paul Donaldson as managing director, broker.

He will replace Brendan McManus who announced his resignation at the beginning of the month.

Donaldson is currently chief executive of R&SA Ireland and will take up his new position 1 July.

He will report directly to Bridget McIntyre, R&SA UK chief executive, and will be responsible for all commercial and personal business transacted via insurance brokers.

Donaldson, aged 52, has been with R&SA for over 30 years.
He is a past president of both the Irish Insurance Federation and the Insurance Institute of Ireland, and prior to his role as chief executive of R&SA Ireland was part of the management team of the company's operations in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

R&SA UK chief executive, Bridget McIntyre, said: "Our broker operation is a core part of our UK business and I'm delighted to bring in someone of Paul's calibre as its new managing director.

"We have moved quickly to get the right person and this clearly demonstrates the strength in depth of R&SA's senior management team.

"Paul's experience in running our highly successful broker led business in Ireland makes him ideally suited to build on our strong position in the market."
