Royal & Sunalliance (R&SA) is in talks with Independent Insurance's liquidators Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC) with a view to buying Property & Casualty Services (PCS).
PWC have been discussing the sale for the past two days but an R&SA spokesman said a decision was unlikely to be announced before next Tuesday.
An industry source said a number of loss adjusting firms had also expressed interest in PCS's business and staff, but PWC was looking for buyer for the whole package.
