Royal & Sunalliance (R&SA) is upgrading its electronic insurance services by linking text messaging services to its call centres. The insurer has invested £30,000 in its SMS messaging project.

E-business director Mark Christer claimed that it would save the company thousands of pounds.

“It costs £2.60 to send a letter but only 4.5p to send an SMS message, regardless of where in the world you are sending it to. Our users love it as we can contact them instantly to let them know what is going on,” he said.

Online insurance quotes are also available using mobile phones but, said Christer, a potential customer still has to go through the call centre to give financial details if they want to buy the package.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
