Royal & Sun Alliance (R&SA) is expected to announce a new chairman and chief executive this week, according to The Sunday Times.

Former chairman Bob Gunn, who temporarily took over the post following the departure of Bob Mendelsohn, has made it clear he did not want to the job full-time.

The new chief executive is thought to support the rescue plan that is under way at the company.

The newspaper suggested that the chief executive has already been selected though his name will not be well known within the industry.
