Royal & SunAlliance is expecting to make 'substantial' savings from setting up an internal team of up to 60 claims litigation experts.
The insurer said it had so far recruited 22 lawyers from private practice to deal with personal injury and commercial liability claims, making it less reliant on outside legal firms.
An RSA spokeswoman said it expected substantial savings from the move which was pioneered by the insurer's US subsidiary 15 years ago.
