Insurer to take up 70,000 sq ft of office space in new building

Fenchurch Street building being built for 2014

RSA has become the latest insurer to announce it will be moving its headquarters to the ‘Walkie Talkie’ tower.

The insurer will take up 70,000f2 across four lower levels of the 37-storey building at 20 Fenchurch Street, according to a report in The Times.

A spokesman for RSA said: “We are in negotiations with 20 Fenchurch Street Limited Partnership to move our London offices to the Walkie Talkie. We will achieve cost efficiencies by consolidating our London properties into one premises, and hope to conclude these talks in the coming weeks.”

So far one-third of the 650,000f2 building has been pre-let prior to its completion in 2014.

Insurers Kiln Group, Markel and Ascot Underwriting are all at various stages of agreeing deals to move into the building.

The Walkie Talkie tower faces competition from the ‘Cheesegrater’ at 122 Leadenhall Street, which has let one-third of its space ahead of its completion in the third quarter of 2014, and the Heron Tower, which was finished last year and is one-third let.

Aon, which is moving its corporate headquarters to London, announced its move to the Cheesegrater in May last year.

The broker is taking up 10 floors of the building, which will be known as The Aon Centre, from early 2015.
