Developer Land Securities will submit planning application to the City Corporation

Developer Land Securities is planning to submit a planning application to affix giant sunshades to the Walkie-Talkie skyscraper next month in an effort to solve its solar glare problems.

In September the building at 20 Fenchurch Street, which is due to house some of the City’s top insurance firms including Aon and RSA , is reported to have reflected an ultra-bright ray of light onto the street which was as hot as 70°C.

The strong reflection of light is said to have also melted car parts because of the building’s unusual curved shape.

Land Securities, jointly developing the building with Canary Wharf Group, has been working on the plans for the large “brise soleil” sunshades on the southern side of the building for the past six months, the Evening Standard reports.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
