Insurance gizmo of the week award goes to another piece of black box technology.

This time, however, the box of tricks doesn't measure driving habits, but property subsidence.

The instrument is fixed onto a building, where wireless sensors monitor a structure's activity and relays information back to the client.

According to SP Property services, which developed the system, it is being piloted by insurers and loss adjusters around the UK.

"Imagine a world where you can be informed about anything you want to from data collected via a 24/7 box system," marvels Graeme Phipps, managing director of SP Property Services.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
