The results of Norwich Union's survey of small and medium enterprises have revealed a little more than Backchat expected.

It appears the SMEs were asked what type of animal they most liken themselves to. Close to 40% see themselves as a typical domestic cat or dog. Why?

It seems they identify with the characteristics of these animals - independent, shrewd, reliable and resilient.

Sadly, only 6% considered their businesses aggressive tigers, while a staggering 13% described their businesses as a plodding elephant, particularly those in manufacturing.

But what about brokers? It has been suggested that with regulation fast approaching, they could be identified with the ostrich, known for sticking its head in the sand.
