Some people used to go to church to find their moral guardian, but insurers have decided to take it upon themselves to bring the public back into line.

For instance, car insurers are now reported to be using marketing and credit agencies to find out more about their drivers.

The result? Smokers, the obese and the divorced could see their premiums rise.

Some insurers actually class smokers and the obese as poor drivers, because their habits show a lack of discipline.

On the upside, other insurers are offering cheaper travel insurance to vegetarians as they believe they are less likely to become ill.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
