Insurers could face raft of claims from homes and businesses

UK insurers are bracing themselves for claims after snow storms swept through the UK at the end of last week and the beginning of this week.

The industry could face claims in a variety of lines of business as a result of the adverse weather, ranging from personal injury and property damage to business interruption.

Insurers have been issuing advice to policyholders on how to reduce the need for claims. Aviva has warned businesses about the structural damages that can result from the weight of heavy and repeated snowfall. It advised checking roofs’ state of repair and looking for tell-tale signs of stress, such as cracking or twisting of joists or beams.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
