Former Guy Carpenter chief to succeed John Kavanaugh.

The board of Heritage Managing Agency, a member of Argo Group International Holdings, has appointment David Spiller as chairman subject to receipt of Lloyd's and FSA approval.

Spiller succeeds John Kavanaugh, whose term of office as chairman concluded with Argo Group's acquisition of Heritage in May 2008. Mr. Kavanaugh's resignation follows five years of service to Heritage.

Spiller, 52, has served as president and CEO of Guy Carpenter and as a member of the organisation's Executive Committee and Management Board since January 2006. As CEO, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Guy Carpenter worldwide.

Before joining Guy Carpenter, he was CEO of Benfield Ltd. in London. He was responsible for all business and offices outside of the U.S. and oversaw specialty lines. Spiller came to Benfield through its merger with Greig Fester, which he joined in 1979 and served as CEO.

Mark Watson, Argo Group president and CEO, said: "I am very pleased that David has agreed to take on the role of chairman of Heritage. Under his guidance and leadership, we look forward to maximising Heritage's potential for profitable growth and development. His wealth of business experience and global perspective will be invaluable assets in this regard."
