The latest ups and downs on the stock market

Aviva’s top man Andrew Moss says Asia is the next frontier for the business, at least in the long term. Unfortunately, the traders are not taking much notice – they are in it for the here and now.

Aviva’s stock slid from 386p to 369p. Not a huge drop, but enough to show that Moss’s message wasn’t that juicy. In the background, Aviva has closed its final salary pension scheme, despite staff grumblings. The move shows shareholders that the company is watching the bottom line, which can’t be a bad thing.
