General insurance companies cut jobs at the fastest rate for more than six years during the first quarter of 2003, according to a CBI report.

High net worth insurer Chubb has added family protection cover for car-jacking, stalking and aggravated burglary to its Masterpiece personal insurance policy.

NIG opens branch
NIG has announced an expansion of its regional network of underwriting offices with the opening of a branch in Chelmsford. NIG said the move will see the Essex and East Anglia team move out of London.

RSPCA discount
Primary Group's agricultural insurer, Rural Insurance, is to provide a discount to members of the RSPCA's animal welfare scheme. Under the arrangement members of the RSCPA scheme, Freedom Food, will receive a 10% discount on all standard policy rates.

A parental guide to address the problem of arson among young children has been published by the Arson Prevention Bureau . The bureau claims arson caused over 1,000 injuries last year.

FSCS test case
A test case that could establish the extent to which corporate policyholders' legal costs are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), is set to go to appeal.
