Insurers are bracing themselves for multi-million pound claims from storms that hit the South West last week.

Homeowners in Devon and Cornwall felt the brunt of gale-force winds as storms and high tides battered the coastline.

Reports said high tides coupled with severe south-easterly winds caused the worst damage across the region in decades.

Early estimates said the cost could run to millions of pounds and repairs could take months to complete. Cunningham Lindsey south-west regional manager Richard Marshall said the company had received around 50 claims as a result of the storms.
